Question by Alie: How should I combine Tuscan and Caribbean into a bedroom?
The room has light teal walls, and I’d like to keep them like that. Right now, it’s a beach theme, and I would like to keep some of that the same, but also add a Tuscan feel. Any help?

Tuscan/Caribbean/Mediterranean all have a ocean feel. I think you can keep your teal walls, add some oil-rubbed bronze and terra cotta accessories to give it the Tuscan flavor. Check out these wickless candles to give you a beautiful accent and wonderful fragrance to your room.

Hmmmm…well, Caribbean evokes more of a beach feel, & Tuscan evokes more of an earthy feel, but they’re both derived from a European essence…Caribbean being French & Tuscan, of course, is Italian. Even a little Moroccan & Spanish/Portugese influence can work. All are very sophisticated looks when done correctly. Combining them requires some skill. I would have dark hand-scraped hardwood floors with a sisal rug, dark carved furniture, such as a poster or sleigh bed, combine some golds, corals & blues, & do your walls in a textured plaster in earthy colors. Use luxurious fabrics, such as silk, but also get some texture like wicker in there also.
This is a tough one and decorating-wise, well, shall I say it’s not exactly cohesive. The classic harvest gold color on the walls would set the stage for Tuscany whereas the teal would be fine for the Carribean. The wall color has a vital role in the mood of the room. Perhaps some landscape prints on your existing walls of those two beautiful areas of the world would be an inspiration for accent colors in the room. The bottom line is,if it’s your bedroom it should suit your taste and be a joyful, restful place.
