Help Choosing Colors For A Tuscan Style Kitchen

by Painter Lady on October 8, 2009

Recently I was contacted by a reader with a call for help choosing colors for a Tuscan style kitchen.

I am in the process of selecting my colors of paint in a Tuscan kitchen. This is a small to medium kitchen.

I have a common wall from my family room that is connected to the breakfast room that I have to consider. This wall has just been painted a light brown.

I was thinking of faux paint the common wall in the the breakfast room. How would suggest I select the right color?

The breakfast room is connected to the kitchen & I was thinking of painting the fur down in faux painting (faux red-cooper) & one small wall in Tuscan yellow.

The cabinets will be dark oak, the counter top is granite (beige & browns), backsplash is beige with accent tile in brown terracotta & the floor is tile (beige). My appliances are white.

Do you think that this will be to much color? Please help. I have never done anything like this before.

Hi…

Here is the picture of your Tuscan Style Kitchen as I see it:

  • Dark Oak Cabinets
  • Beige and Brown Granite
  • Beige Floor Tile
  • Beige and brown/ terracotta back splash tile
  • White Appliances
  • One wall is already painted light brown.

These are your questions:

  • You want to paint a common wall with faux painting but are unsure of the color.
  • You want to paint one small wall in Tuscan yellow.
  • And another area with a faux technique using a reddish copper.

Because these areas are small by your description… is sounds like you are chopping up the areas instead of trying to make them all one cohesive area.

Tuscany colors

This picture of an Italian Monastery shows that all the buildings are painted one color. This gives the entire courtyard a cohesive feel.

  • Honey yellow/ Golden wall color
  • Black Iron and Glass Lamp
  • Terra Cotta/Sienna Color Pots and Statues
  • Grayed Leaf Green Color Bench
  • Grey Stone Courtyard
  • Black Iron Grillwork
  • Arched and Crowned Doorways and Pass-through
  • Grey Stone window and door surrounds
  • Deep Red Tile Roofs
  • Dark Brown Stain Heavy Wood Door
  • Clear Leaf Green Cypress Trees and Oleander

Anything in a soft gray green or sage green will look clean and also compliment all the neutrals you have on the floor and counters.

Tuscan Kitchen Color

This Tuscan style kitchen is soft in color choices. The light color counters – cabinets – floors and white walls all blend to create a warm comforting space. The color choices don’t chop up the space so it feels larger.

A few black accents always help ground any room. Try it – you will be amazed.

The wall at the end is faux finished with with a warm copper toned faux finish. It not only gives a great texture to the “feature wall” but it also helps to visually widen the space.

The room needs window coverings to cover what will be black holes at night. The space is light and bright but without more fabric to soften the area it will have an echo effect.
